The Curiosity Box
Etel Adnan was born in Beruit, Lebaonon in 1925. She grew up in a world surrounded by many languages; her mother spoke Greek and her Syrian father spoke Arabic. Etel wrote poems and became a teacher. A friend encouraged her to start painting, and she began painting all the time. Instead of using a brush, she created pictures using a palette knife. She covered canvases in happy, bright shapes that make you think of mountains, sky, sun and water. Etel teaches us to be curious and try new things.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
What is a Make + Wonder box?
Make + Wonder’s monthly art club boxes are for children aged 3-10 years old. They are a monthly art subscription box designed to spark your children's imagination and creativity. There are lots of ideas but no rules. The box is full of open-ended inspiration and tips to support children’s creativity.
How will the activities encourage my child to create?
Each box is focused on the process of exploring and creating art rather than the finished product, so children will not get frustrated trying to reproduce an adults design. Activities have been created by Qualified Primary School Teachers and are influenced by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Loose Parts Play and process oriented art. Our boxes support the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage in the UK.
What age is the art box for?
Our creative kits are designed for children aged 3-10 years old. But there is no age limit, older children and adults may enjoy creating too. The box contains resources that are unsuitable for children under three years of age to use. We have children of all ages who subscribe between 3-10 years. Younger children ( under 5's) will need help and support to set up the projects and make.
Do you include pictures of the artists work?
We can not include artists' work images in our art kits, as it would breach copyright rules. There are links to videos and pictures of their work. Each month we also include an illustration of the artist and their work created by an artist we commision.
Are your boxes just for girls?
No! We designed Make + Wonder with girls and boys in mind. We feel like it is important for all kids to learn from the lives and experiences of creative women.
Why doesn't Make + Wonder feature men?
We believe that all art is important , but what inspired us to start Make + Wonder was the lack of strong female artists and their stories. We want Make + Wonder to be the place to share the stories and art of creative women.
Do you make boxes for groups of children?
Yes we can make art boxes for groups of children to use. These are perfect for playdates or parties. Email us at email@example.com to get a price.
Where do you ship to?
We are currently only shipping to the UK, we are hoping we will be able to ship to the EU again soon.
How much does postage cost?
Postage is calculated and added at the checkout. We ship by Royal Mail. Subscriptions are posted 2nd class with FREE UK SHIPPING
I haven't received my box?
Boxes are all posted with Royal Mail. They are still experiencing delays in some areas due to COVID and some boxes can still take up to two weeks to arrive.
Your box will not fit through a letterbox and will be returned to your local depot if they are unable to deliver it. Please contact your local Delivery office to check if they have your parcel.

Great box and so nice to get something for siblings to do together
A fantastic box and super that the children could do together independently. Thank you!
Beautifully presented and put together - with plenty of materials and ideas. My granddaughters were thrilled.
I've bought this as a Christmas present and can't wait for them to use this gorgeous art box
Purchased for my 4 and 7 year olds as the younger in particular is very into art and adores her book about Yayoi Kusama.
This is a really lovely book. Just enough biographic info to make a great introduction, along with photos of some of each artist’s work. Important life events aren’t sugar-coated or sanitised, but are handled in a manner appropriate for children. We read an artist a night, as each chapter is about the right length. Very nice illustrations too.
As a result of this book my daughter now adores Kenojuak Ashevak. It was amazing to watch her discover art that speaks to her. (Kenojuak’s picture gets an excited equal and a kiss every time we pass it!)
Also very happy to support make+wonder with this purchase as it’s a fabulous shop and resource for inspiration!
Bought as gifts but wanted to keep - very well received gifts
My son loved it!
I bought this box as a little something fun to do together with my 2 girls before they go back to school - they love crafts - and this box gave us hours of fun. I was really impressed by the products included as well as all the info/how- to suggestions and the positivity in the wording was fab& really helped my girls to just have fun & enjoy it x
My niece is absolutely thrilled with her art gift box! It’s nicely presented, with many activities included & great quality materials.
My 9 year old daughter is thrilled with her box. We learnt about Frida Kahlo as an artist and had lots of fun creating head bands, collages and glyphs! She is looking forward to creating her self-portrait and using her sketch book. The materials are beautiful and the perfect quantity. Thank you for inspiring my daughter and I! Can’t wait to order our next box!! X
It was really good, fun and I could have gone for ages. I loved the bubble wrap and making my own stamps. From Abigail aged 8.
So good to have a box that isn’t ‘conveyor belt’ crafts and gives the child an opportunity to express their creativity
This was such a fantastic kit! One box and so much to do. I managed to get my children to share between them. There was more than enough. We’ve only managed two activities which kept them entertained for at least 2 hours!
The remainder of the activities will be over the next week or so. Looking forward to ordering the Georgia O’keefe box!
I highly recommend this box!!!
lovely product, very open ended activities that ignite curiosity and creativity!
